Very special charge cooling and extra fuel allow better response, The Higher power output is achieved from higher boost and reduced inlet charge temperature. The car runs additional injectors, with the originals running the engine most of the time and the additional unit providing extra only when extra is needed. That way your car will pass its MOT, and can be serviced at your dealership.
This Turbo is very well matched to it application having taken over a year of work to finalise the Turbo spec. This Turbo runs at an awesome 77-78 % efficiency from 3000rpm to the Redline!!! Compare that to a Supercharger struggling to get a 50% efficiency rating!
Full Boost arrives between 3000 rpm and 3500rpm and remains at full boost until the red line - boost delivery better than a supercharger! A Standard Cooper S is on a little over half maximum boost at 3000 rpm and does not get full boost until 6750 rpm! Can you see why Turbos are better than Superchargers for most cars?
This is the limit for reliable low boost high compression turbo charging on the MINI. Additional power and torque will only be achieved by lowering the compression, which means taking the engine apart. Modest refinements can be made in the normal ways, (and we have run 225bhp) but the next leap forward will only come from a reduction in CR. If you intend to take your car beyond 200 bhp please talk to us, as we can offer various different packages depending upon your requirements.
